Meet Your Guide

Hello, I'm the artist behind Sketch Basics. My creative journey began years ago with a simple pencil and a sketchpad, exploring lines, shadows, and the play of light. Over time, I realised that sharing this process made the art even more rewarding. I started this blog to offer clear, step-by-step guidance for those just starting out. Based in the UK, I focus on building confidence through observation and practice, helping beginners discover their own way of seeing. Each post is a reflection of my own learning and the joy I find in teaching fundamental drawing techniques.

My Background

I grew up surrounded by sketchbooks and watercolour sets, always experimenting with different approaches. Formal training came later, but the most valuable lessons were learned through daily practice and curiosity. I believe that drawing is a skill anyone can develop, and my aim with Sketch Basics is to break down complex ideas into manageable steps.

After years of teaching in small workshops and online, I noticed that beginners often feel overwhelmed by the vast amount of information available. That’s why I focus on core principles: proportion, shading, and composition. These building blocks form the foundation for any style, whether you prefer pencil, pen, or watercolour.

What drives me is seeing a student’s confidence grow as they complete their first sketch. I share my own mistakes and discoveries openly, hoping to create a space where learning feels encouraging rather than intimidating. If you’re new to drawing, you are in the right place.
